The Horspath Wine Club
The Horspath Wine Club (HWC) meets most months of the year, on a Friday evening at ‘The Hub’ 7.30pm-9.30pm, to taste and 6-7 different wines and/or spirits.
The evenings, which are social occasions as much as a chance to learn about wine, are hosted by a group member or, more often, an external wine expert. We also enjoy cheese & biscuits or other nibbles at each tasting. (See Tasting Dates).
Cost of each evening – Normally £20 per member & £22 for guests
Members and their guests only pay for the evenings for which they register to attend. The wines are chosen by that evening’s host, usually an outside expert, and the themes each year are chosen by the full group. Most of our, close-to 70, members live within Horspath village, but we also boast an increasing number of members from surrounding villages including Littleworth, Wheatley, Garsington, Iffley, Littlemore and even further afield – many of which reach us via the 46 bus or by taxi.
To understand how the tastings work each month, or for more information please visit our website at: www.horspathwine.club
Ask around the village and the chances are that you’ll find someone that you know that is a member.
Why not join us!

Creative Writing
This is a small group of people who enjoy writing! We don’t currently have a tutor but , within the group, there is some expertise! We choose a topic at each class for the next time.
This could be :
“take the first line of a well-known book and write about 500 words”
or “making a mountain out of a molehill”
Often, we e-mail our contributions to the other members of the group before the meeting but there is no obligation to do this.
At the moment someone brings an object and we start by writing spontaneously for 5 minutes. We share our efforts and then go on to read our piece of writing. All this takes about an hour and a half and there is time for discussion.
There is scope to reorganise the group to include more poetry or to write a progressive piece of work (we have done this and it turns out very well).
So, we are not a professional group and, as far as I know, no one is having anything published at the moment but there is definitely a lot of talent.
NB we also have a go at comparing our work with AI but only with a view to being amused by the results.
We meet approximately every 6 weeks and I ask for £5 per person every other meeting to pay for the hire of the room. (Please check the calendar on the BOOKINGS page to see when our next one is).
